This week the children had the wonderful opportunity to create artwork which will ride aboard NASA's OSIRIS-REx spaceship on its way to the asteroid Bennu. As part of their "We The Explorers" mission theme, NASA has given people the opportunity to send their unique artwork on a ride to the asteroid. Any type of artwork is accepted, from visual, written, song, even video. The deadline is March 20, 2016 or when capacity of the drive carrying submissions is reached. We decided to make two canvasses depicting planets and constellations in space. We even added an astronaut to one canvas. The children painted the canvas with black and dark purple paint. Next we added planets and different colors for far away galaxies. Then came the best part - we added stars and constellations by splatter painting white paint mixed with water all over the canvas. The children sure had fun painting their canvas. With a little help, the final product was out of this world!
