Lesson 43 - Bubblewrap - Stamp Painting

We took advantage of today’s seascape painting to have the chance  to use unusual items to paint our picture. We began by using bubble wrap (everyone’s favorite toy!), to paint our underwater scene. Of course, everyone loves to pop bubble wrap; and the children showed amazing restraint in not popping but painting with it instead.

They coated the bubble side with water based colors like blue, green, some white and yellow and some purple. This they then stamped on a plain piece of white paper to make their ‘water’. Some children chose to overlap their print to create new colors with interesting results.

They next used creams and yellows to render the sand at the bottom of the sea. For this, some children opted to paint their base with a toothbrush instead of using the bubble wrap.

After this main scene was completed, we used homemade stamps to add our sea creatures. The children chose jellyfish, small and large sea animals, octopus, sea kelp and seashells.

They were able to use multiple bright colored paints for the sea animals. Once again, some children overlapped their creatures and some created more abstract forms.

 

Overall, everyone had fun stamping their underwater scene, and all of the pictures were painted without the use of paintbrushes.
