Lesson 74 - Georgia O'Keeffe for Mother's Day

This Lesson concentrated on artist Georgia O’Keeffe. She is an American artist, born on November 15, 1887. Among her more notable works are the huge flower paintings, as well as landscapes of New Mexico and the New York skyline. There is a museum dedicated to her life and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

For mother’s day, we learned about Georgia O’Keeffe, and looked at samples of her pictures; specifically her beautiful flowers. The children then thought about their own moms/caregivers, and what their favorite thing or activity was.

For this craft we used plain white tiles measuring 5x4, and the children used permanent and semi-permanent markers to draw their artwork directly on the tiles. Not all elected to draw a flower motif, some drawing their family members, others choosing to draw rainbows, and butterflies, which pleased their mom.

After the tiles were completed, they were put aside to dry, and finally were sprayed with a fixative to prevent smudging. I think the artwork turned out beautifully. Georgia O'Keeffe would have been proud.
