We are a bit ahead of ourselves for Valentine’s day, but this craft is just so adorable that we decided to make it today. The wonderful thing is that the entire craft is made out of hearts.
First, the children saw a sample of the finished product. It is an adorable puppy, made entirely out of hearts cut out of construction paper.
They were very excited, and wanted to make one of their very own.
So, I began by giving each child a red heart and a pink heart, which was cut in half. The red heart served as the face of the puppy, and the pink halves became the puppy's floppy ears.
The children taped the ears to the face.
Next the children received two heart shaped eyes, made with a stamp cutting tool. These were glued onto the “face”. Also made out of a heart shape was the puppy’s nose, which the children also glued to the base of the red heart. The last thing to be glued onto the face was the tongue, which hung out of the puppy’s mouth, under the nose, at the base of the face.
After all the parts were glued on, the children got the chance to finish decorating their puppy. They used markers to draw in the pupil on the eyes, as well as coloring the ears and anything else the children wanted to color. They truly made their beautiful puppies their own unique creation.
